Dutch Mullett was the man who, at a time in my life when I probably most needed it...gave me direction. He was a local signpainter who hired me right out of high school in 1972 and became my mentor. When I first watched him layout and letter a sign I knew that I wanted to do exactly that...layout a sign and letter it. I had no idea that I would have to spend the rest of my life practicing the craft of signpainting before I would begin to get anywhere as good as he was.
I am very proud to be a signpainter although I must admit that most of what we do today is digital. So anyhow what I really want to say here before we get into the "WHO IS BUTLER DESIGN AGENCY?" is thank Dutch, for not only teaching me how to paint signs but by your life's example...you showed me what a good human being should be and that I will be forever indebted to you.

Okay so here we are today, December 2nd 2005. doing the math tells me that I have been about this craft now for...some 33 years. I can't imagine what other profession I could have chosen that would have had any where's near the rewards as this one.

It used to be so simple in the early days...I think that maybe people were a little more trusting or perhaps just a little more laid back then but...most times a sign was sold on just your word alone. I mean you rarely had to even provide a thumb nail sketch for crying out load. Today it seems that many of our clients need to see exactly what it is before they commit to a project. Whether those really were the good ole days or these are will forever be debated...I am just one of the lucky ones who gets to enjoy them both.

Of course there's plenty that I am going to add to this but...man there are just so many hours in a day you know?
